Tecra 8200

I have a Tecra 8200 laptop running win98. Sometime last week, the user complained about the system being very slow. I ran Symantec and noted several trojans etc. I followed instructions to fix the first problem and have just realized that I lost my list of problems. This is a problem because the laptop is doing strange things.

Bootup to the desktop is normal. Everything seems to be fine until I try to click START. It won't open the start window, the icons won't highlight when clicked and I can't rightclick on them. The TAB key won't do anything either. Ctl/Alt/Del does give me the box, which looks like this:

Explorer
Dslaunch
Systray
Nwrecmsg
Propelac

I can close these programs but it's not helping the situation.

Try booting to safe mode. Are you able to access the start menu properly from there?

If not, just use the quick recovery cd to reset everything back to factory defaults. Be sure to back the data somewhere else before doing this though, as it will wipe the drive.
