dvd burner won't burn dvd

i got this problem that my when i go to copy disc to a disc using nero burning rom,it keeps saying to insert blank disc to copy to,but there's already an empty disc in the burner and it just opens up the drive,and the burner works when i burn my mp3 files but it doesn't work when i want to copy disc to disc on a cd-r or dvd-r MY BURNER IS AN EMPREX DVDRW-IDE1004 can someone pls help????thanks

Okay I think I know what your problem is, the people that manufacture the disc's for movies and music,bloat the file's when their being burned at the factory, say your tring to copy a Shrek dvd,(which would typically be bloated to 7.5 gig's or more),to a dvdr (which can only hold 4.7 gig's) it would be too large for Nero to copy.And the erorr message you got was the one Nero give's if the original is too large or if the blank already has information on it(the same goes for cd's),as well as the disc's you are trying to copy most likely have copy guard, which make's the disc come out funky,but dont despair just yet,there are a number of free program's out there to decrypt and shrink dvd's or cd's.
Here are couple that I recommend for Dvd's

To Decrypt: http://www.doom9.org/
Look under Descrambling/Ripping Tool's you will find
"DvD Decrypter 3.5.1.0" that's the one you want.

To Shrink:
http://www.doom9.org/
Look under Vob tool's and click on DVD Shrink3.2 and there you go

Here is a good site I found for audio cd's:

These are just a few that I found out of many good free program's to choose from,depending on how involved you want to get.

I don't think that's the problem,cause i've been using DVD XCOPYGOLD EDITION to copy original dvd's,then i would get the copy and make more copys using disc to disc copy using nero,it was working fine until a couple days ago when i started get that problem to insert an empty disc in the drive when i already had one and i would get insert another empty disc and nothingh happens i have to abort the process,like i said the burner is working cause when i go to burn my mp3's it burns fine

Have you recently installed updated version's of either "Nero" or
"dvd xcopygold edition",or have you changed setting's in either that you haven't changed before?
