Server 2003 only finding one cpu
I have a Compaq Proliant server with 2 200mhz Pentium Pro CPU's , 1GB RAM, and 5 4.3GB SCSI drives (not raid). I installed Windows Server 2003 Standard on to it and I can only get it to show one cpu in windows. When it boots, it see's and initializes both cpu's, but when you get in to windows there is only one. I have tried reloading the OS and that did not help. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me thanks.

You have to load a multiprocessor HAL.
1. Go to device manager and expand the "computer" icon.
2. Double click the entry under "computer" (usually ACPI or Standard PC)
3. Select the driver tab and click "update driver"
4. Walk through the update driver wizard and select "display a list of the known..."
5. This is where it gets tricky... If you have an ACPI compliant system, then select ACPI Multiprocessor, if not, then you can try the Compaq Multiprocessor option.
Good luck!

Press F5 at the beginning of setup (after "setup is inspecting..." message) - choose MPS multiprocessor PC.

BTW, there is no message to indicate that you should press F5 as it is with F6 for disk controller drivers.

Where do you look to see if it uses one or two cpu? if you use task manager try this first, just open taskmanager and check the view menu, look under cpu history. I think it is set to one graph for all cpu by default.

My lazy-*** method:
WINDOWS KEY + BREAK to bring up Windows System Properties.
The CPU(s) should be indicated here.
