    Angry problems problems problems

Greetings and Salutations on this newest of December evenings,
O.k. I have an old HP comp. I'm not to sure on the specs ,but anyway I installed Win. 98 then It got erased I'm tring to reinstall with the 98 cd but i can't format the disk ( I have unrecognizable characters in volume label ). Someone suggested Wipe but that doesn't seems to be able to run . When I run the 98 cd It goes through the routine of Scandisk, But ultimetly the program can't proceed because of to many dir , The cd suggest to delete some before it can continue ! How do i go about clearing everything on the harddisk with the 98 seeing as i can't run the fdisk .Also can anyone give me the common Dir/ extentions to navigate the Dos portion with the win 98 ??
    <------I like this!

    cd\ - back to root

    cd.. - back one level

    dir - list directory

dir |more - list by page

del (filename) - delete single file

deltree /s - delete directory and all subdirectories

Try running the format command from floppy disk
To wipe the harddrive Format c: /u - unconditional format

    Or my favorite Fdisk.
    The Moral Majority is neither.

Nope the only command that seems to work is DIR
Maybe I'm typing it in wrong but ???
Fdisk doesn't work because I can't delete the volume label (It's in characters that i can't duplicate)
When I run 98cd I get the message (can't create a temperorary directory to many files in the root ) How can i delete those files ??

Try Zap . Scroll down till you see Zap, download and run from a floppy. It's worked for me in similar situations.
I think I know just enough to know how much I don't know... I think...
