SOLVED!:0x0000008E device driver error, please help!
Hello, first of all please excuse my lack of technical knowledge.
I have been having a major problem with my computer for the past few weeks. Whenever I play the game Battlefield Vietnam I get the blue screen of death with the 0x0000008E (0xc0000005) error message. Prior to this I had been playing the game error free for 2 or so months.
I have scoured the internet looking for a fix to this problem. So far I have:
Tested my memory, it is error free.
Reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows, the error was still there.
I was using a Radeon 9700pro, so experimented with various drivers, making sure they were clean installed, still no joy.
I thought maybe the 9700 was overheating for some reason (or just plain faulty) so today I went out and got a Geforce 5200 to test this theory, I was able to play Battlefield 1942 but the minute I tried Vietnam my now favourite error message reappeared.
I have made sure the drivers for my cd drives are up to date etc.
When I reboot the computer I send the error message to Microsoft who kindly inform me that the error is caused by a device driver but no specific one.
Please could you offer some ideas on how I may be able to sort this problem out as I am on the verge of dropping my computer from a great height.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
My system is not the greatest but has not given me any problems before:

Have you downloaded the patch? Here is the BFVN site.
The Moral Majority is neither.

you should goto the microsoft site and put the error message in the search page and see what comes up. They have an article on it about it that might help.

I think I have sorted out the problem, I have shut down zone alarm and now the game seems to work fine.
There was probably some sort of bug in the update.
Thanks very much for all your advice!
