can XP help with computer instability
Hi everyone
I have a friend with HP pavillion 8660 and AMD PROCESSOR K6-2 550mhz.
The computer is very unstable and keeps crashing, not working well with printer etc. So we have decided to reformat and i was thinking of upgrading to XP. He has 256 mb of Ram. I have heard conflicting stories about XP but on the whole that it is better than ME so I thought might ensure reduced problems in future...
What do the experts think?

It's much more stable than ME. It probably won't run as fast on that PC but I would try it anyway.

well I guess running slower is better than seizing up all the time.;-) My IBM Thinkpad Pentium 2 366mhz works fine with XP but I wasn't sure that the different processors and system of HP would be able to cope.....

I guess slow is a relative thing. It should run faster than your Thinkpad.

ME was designed for the media-minded home user whuile XP was intended to be a professional workstation OS.
Heck, Win98SE would be better than ME for stability.
