Question Is Visual Basic hard to learn?

I know C, C++, SQL, and a little java. I notice how there is also a demand for someone with a Visual Basic background. I just need to know if it is harder to master or easier as compared to other programming languages. If it is easier then I will probably get one of those "Idiots Guide to" books.

    Thanks

Well, depends on what you want to do.

Heck, you could just have a pretty front end with VB, run C++ code, whatever. IMHO, VB = poo, but that's just because I had a prof i couldn't stand.

if you know C and C++ then VB should be a breeze...plus there are tons of tutorials and sample code bits available...when i learned i didnt have the web for a resource.

    Yup

To answer cable, if you can master c++ (the object orientated version of normal C for anyone wondering what the difference is) then you ought to be able to 'eat' VB .. mind there's a whole load of windows API calls to master regardless of any previous experience, if you want to be 'nifty' with it

    VB rots your brain.

I noticed that once i started using it i forgot how to work things in C++ becasue they were so simple in VB.

If you know ASP then you know most of the basics of VB and visa versa.

VB.net is a lot like java in some respects, a lot of the old commands don't work anymore as microsoft slowly moves towards more object oriented programming.

    Is VB Hard? No
Is it stupid and dumb? yes

I Don't know, i've been programming for a few years now, im pretty good with java, c and assembler, so VB was pretty easy to pick up. It was just a matter of the syntax differences that pissed me off to no end.

Dumb maybe, but handing a client a bill for over $1500 worth of time just for coding a small VB.net database access client is worth it.

I prefer C/C++ and Java myself...

With the help of a GOOD book you'll have it mastered in no time.
