M-Audio Omni Studio / Home Audio Recording

Hello, Thanks for taking time to read this. Just ordered a computer set-up and was wondering if anyone can wise me up on anything I may need to know.
Like what program is best suited to this set-up for recording audio, no MIDI.

    AthlonXP 1700
    ASROCK K7S41GX SOCKETA 741GX Motherboard Sound512 DDR PC3200
    512mb RAM
    M-Audio Delta 66 with Omni In/Out
    40 GB HardDrive
    etc.

I'm hoping the Mobo / Soundcard set-up is compatible.
    Anyone familiar with this mobo?
Anything I need to have besides mics and speakers, cables in oreder to record as soon as I get it?

Well, I don't see any particular reason for incompatability, at least it's not a VIA chipset.

To record immediately, you'll need suitable pre-amplification to take mic or instrument inputs to the line levels of the card inputs. (Probably the -10dBV option, normal domestic line in level, unless you have access to a mixer that has the higher professional +4dBu output level).

With software, some info on your preferences would help with options, free or commercial, if commercial, budget? What sort of stuff will you be recording, & how do you want to use it, make CDs, live backing tracks etc?

eg Audacity will do multi-track for free:

Mmm, strange... You are going into the Ch3 or 4 line in aren't you, not the Mic/Instrument In?
