    Sitting here practicing RICE

    Rest
    Ice
    Compression
    Exercise

Today I failed to notice that the part of the pavement (sidewalk) I was on was coming to an end so in the greatest tradition of Wile E Coyote, I tried to walk on air and failed miserably.

A split second later I found myself lying in a somewhat ungainly heap in the roadway with scuffed knees and hands and what I thought was a minorly sprained ankle. So I dusted myself off and walked to the shops and finished the xmas shopping I had planned... ankle painful but useable.

Then I went to pick up my son from school - a 30 minute journey in an automatic car. This meant my left ankle got no exercise and in that time became very stiff. Walking into school was difficult. Local doctor is shut on a Wednesday afternoon, so I had to wait till hubby came home an hour later before I could take myself to the minor injuries unit (local ER). By the time I got there, it was taking every ounce of self control to hobble without screaming the 50 yards from the parking space to the reception.

One X-ray later, no I haven't broken my foot/ankle - merely torn every damn ligament between my ankle bone and my toes. The nurse cheerily informs me it will take longer for the ligaments to heal than a broken foot bone

So now I guess we shall find out exactly how much housework hubby really does, because I can't do a damn thing other than hobble to the freezer to get a new ice pack every hour. I am going to college tomorrow, but only for a presentation from our class to our course tutor who is retiring this christmas.

I might even get caught up with my assignments now too!

sorry to hear that Noo. ligaments tears are rough! it's going to be a LONG while before you are back to normal. they aren't reccomending surgery are they?

just relax, and DON'T stress that ankle at all.....no matter what isn't getting done or how much the a-hole is barking at you.

No meds Cleetus, we are brits Just standard over the counter strong painkillers... takes the edge off. If you feel no pain, you damage the ligaments more.

Gazzak, just who would I blame for me walking voluntarily off the curb without noticing there was a curb there?

And ya kato, I am going to enjoy watching him cope - or I will just have a filthy house on xmas day.

Blah, can tell you're not American. Here's a list of a few to get you started:

    * The city/town gov't for not properly painting/identifying the end of a sidewalk.

    * The manufacturer of the shoes you were wearing for not providing proper support to help you catch your balance when you started to fall.

    * The coffee shop you grabbed a coffee from this morning for not putting enough caffiene in your coffee, causing you to be absent-minded.

    * The owner of whatever building/sign/vehicle you may have been looking at instead of watching where you were going. Had they not made thier property so distracting, you would have noticed the curb.

    * Gotta throw video games and tv shows in there - somehow they scarred you as a young child, and caused mental blocking to certain parts of your brain.

    * The cigarette manufacturers - just because anybody who sues them for anything always wins since they are the devil in disguise.

    * And of course, your hubby for causing emotional turmoil that distracted you.

That should get you started, wouldn't be too shocked if you could actually win with a few of those..................oh wait, like I said before, you're not in the US, so scratch the whole thing!

Sorry to hear of you misfortune NooNoo. Just remember what that R stands for and get yourself some good rest. Ligiment damage really sucks. i tore all the ones in my right wrist awhile back.... besides some other damage too so you have my simpathy...

    P. s.
sounds like the doctor/nurse you got knew more than the doc I got. When I finally went to a specialist he said the other doc was rather dumb and didn't treat it properly. And no I didn't sue him.... I was a dumb kid at the time.
