Well,.. If I'm paying $50 per month for DSL and I find out that some cheapazz is leeching my bandwidth,.. then I'd be pretty pissed. However, I guess if I am not smart enough to turn off "broadcast" and turn on "WEP" security, then perhaps I deserve to have my bandwidth leeched anyway. Hmmm. Anyway,.. I think it is wrong and should be illegal because why should one person have to pay for the signal and the other person gets that same exact signal for free?

Yup. Most people in my area don't realize that I could just go change all their router settings with no problem. Not that I would, but I could.

As a novice in this, I am not sure how to clock the speed of my Internet connection. I know that it is many times faster than my dial up service…

It's illegal. It's called theft. If you're caught you could be prosecuted.

    Get your own.

How is this any different from some one driving around looking for a "hot spot" to use. Do they know whether this "hot spot" is there from some one wanting to set up a free access point or some one simply left their access point open?

If I leave my front door open does that give you the right to burgle me?

    Rule of thumb:

    If you don't know, ask.
If you don't know who to ask then just don't.
