    problem playing video

not sure if this is the right section to post in but it seems to be the only option. when i play video files on my system it runs fine for the first one or two videos i play. then the video almost goes to a slower play rate and audio stays normal. then i restart my system and it is fine for the next one or two vids a play. normally my vids are divx encoded. and i do have the latest codec as of a few weeks ago. my system is a athlon 64bit 3200+, asus k8v se deluxe, 1gb ddr400, geforce fx5700 256mb, xp pro sp1, s-ata 160gb. the vids are on the second partion. any help would be great. also i have directx 9.0c installed. normally i run video player called mv2player but it also happens if i use win media player 9.

Where are you getting the divx codecs from? A codec pack?
Also does this happen only in divx format codecs or even xvids?
    What about mpegs?
Have you done something recently that might explain whats happenning?
Try using Media Player Classic http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/

videos over 40 minutes long. typically. videos from x-rated sites. also some tv recorded shows.
    Techz:
i don't think it affects mpegs but most of the vids i watch aren't mpegs. i think it also happens on xvids. i downloaded my divx decoder from divx.com. thanks for the response so far you two.

Try removing them and installing the codec pack in my link.

Have you done something recently that might explain whats happenning? And try MPC from my previous post.

no i haven't done anything recent to this computer that would explain the problem. except for some registry key a few months ago. that prevents windows from dening (sp?) access to avi files (like deleting or moving them) because xp keeps them loaded in memory or something like that. i will try the MPC. thanks again.

The reg edit your talking of, it prevents xp from making a rather useless check of the avi file everytime it see's it, i disable it too, waste of time and resources.

I have the same problems with videos files
I use FX5700 win xp service pack 2(+all new windows updates)
66.93 video drivers and ViPlay video player(the problem occurs with all other video players) ffdshow codec pack(I guess the problem is not in the codecs nor in the player)
the same problem does not appear on the same machine(I own an internet cafe and have a lot of machines with the same configuration) with videocard MX 440 the same drivers/codecs/players

    Welcome to the forums Stilgar.

Whats the exact problem, Stilgar? And do you have the latest codecs? ffdshow is not exactly a codec pack. You'd would be better off using a proper codec pack, try using VideoLAN http://www.videolan.org/ and if that doesnt work, get a codec pack from http://mirror.edskes.com/

Let us know how it goes.

what i did was to fix mine was to download the newest k-lite codec pack. but first i uninstalled my codecs that i had and just installed k-lite. i also updated my vid drivers and made sure i had directx 9.0c installed.
