Question not full hdd capacity detected

got my new Samsung 160GB 7200rpm. it automatically formatted it as ntfs n installed win 2000 on it fine, workin like a dream BUT windows only detects 127GB. i had a look at sum otha posts wid da same probs but im at a dead end i think. ive changed da registry, no change. i looked at wot bios detects it at n its 130GB only. i looked around bios 4 a bit but cudnt find nethin bout 48 bit block woteva. i tried da maxtor big drive enabler but dat told me it didnt need 2 change my registry coz i already had dat 48bit thingy enabled. ne ideas? btw i hope i dont have 2 "flash" my bios or woteva coz i have a bad feelin dat i will f up my mothaboard. if dta is da only solution, is der ne way of gettin round dis prob as well??!!

I think i can translate the language above. His disk drive is not being detected by his bios correctly. This means he needs to update his bios to allow for 48bit addressing etc.

Can someone let me know if i translated this incorrectly :-)))

yeh i thought so....i just read my motherboard manual and it says there will only be a problem if a bad new bios is used, do you know anywhere i can get a good working bios from? i need an AMI8 to flash my bios
(p.s. i hope my new queen's english is easier to read...never txted, used a messenger service etc. before?)

Can you confirm you asus board model, i did a search on the asus site and asus k7s5a is not listed.

You can try: http://asus.com.tw which takes you to a main page, the select your region which takes you to a local page. Then click on support and look for downloads, select bios and type in your model number. that should list all available updates. Download one that fixes your problem. And read the text file, this tells you how to update the bios.

It's not as scary as it sounds. If you have any doubts, message Ruslan, he's the bios magi here. what he don't know aint been written.

K7S5A is an ECS board, not Asus.
