Gmail and Spam
Yes theres a decent amount, but they seem to know about it cause it alwasy goes to the SPAM Folder, its like deliberate spamming, they know about it. There is no such thing as block, but they allow you to mark it as Junk/Spam Mail. And its always the same deal for me, selling me software.

I have a gmail account that NOBODY except me and google know about. It's full of spam, what does that tell you?

Intel Mod
My gmail has been used for almost nothing in 4 months. I used it for registering on a forum a fortnight ago and received 18 spams (software & "medications"). They all went straight into the Spam box and no more have arrived. About a third of them had a garbled "almost" version of my address in the subject line, they may have been produced by a random generator.
Obviously any spammers who have "hotmail" type lists will have immediately converted them to "gmail" lists.

I've had my gmail account for some time, no spam at all.
Looks like spammers are using a technique of trying their luck, even in my mail server I see attempts of junk with "common names" @our domain (ex rick@mydomain, although there has never been an account 'rick')
Same happened with a hotmail account (opened 2 the same day), one had a short name, one a long one, the short name got hit with spam...

My name isnt a common one, but they seem to know it nonetheless, and it comes with a few variations.

Same here, I signed up for one, never used it or gave it out. Logged into it last week for the first time since setting it up, and the spambox had over 100 messages in it.

Looks like they are trying to use existing names from other providers... just checked my "short name" gmail account (have another one with the same name @mail.com) - there *is* spam in the spam folder (never saw it because I use a POP3 interface that only reads the inbox)... almost the same messages as in my @mail.com account.. why am I not surprised???

It tells me that something is different from your circumstances to mine - not happening 'whatsoever' over here - no spam whatsoever ! not one ! - & I'm more surprised about that, than I anticipate you'll be !
