With a dramatic come from behind lead, we have "keep it on" on top for the first time, and Adept hasn't even shown his face here yet. His arival should blow the doors off of the competition!

When I first came to WD and got advice from someone the first thing I looked at was the title under their avatar seemed like a good way to see if this person had a clue. When that went away I started looking at the post count to see who had posted alot. I guess after that goes away I'll have to settle for whoever has the coolest smilies and avatars. Reminds me of the edelbrock stickers I put on my Chevy they made it run faster before I even installed the carb.

As the first post in thise thread, it has caused problems before, however the removal of thread deletion has helped.

Keep 'em.
As other members have mentioned, it's a sort of 'litmus test' if you will for new members as well as the long timers.
Besides the reality is,with or without, some members will find a way to be childish and obnoxious.

OFF
what does it really matter. the people with the highest post counts aside from Noo (and probably -ed) don't help that much in the tech sections much anymore so what is it indicative of anyway. how much time you can waste at work?
it's caused problems in the past and getting rid of it would help clear off a lot of the mindless crap posts as people try to reach some idiotic goal of 10,000 posts or whatever.

agreed, and especially the bolded part.
the post count does seem to offer some credibility, the lounge factor diminishes it.

I say keep the post count, but eliminate the lounge posts. In my case, most of my posts would go away, but at least the n00bs' would be able to use the post count as a more accurate "litmus test". Also: I voted to turn it off. It just causes too much trouble among people based on what I have seen and it gives n00bs a false sense of who is most knowledgable to help them with tech problems. I have got some great advice in the past from both those with high and low post counts.

We should keep the post count, but we should come up with a advice feedback rateing system. That would solve most of our problems I thin.

Maybe they should change it so posting in the Lounge doesn't count.

Yeah, but if they did that, I'd loose most of my posts. My way, we get to keep all of our posts, and the people with questions know if the advisor knows his stuff. We get our cake, and can eat it, too.
