compaq presario 100c BIOS
Hi, I've got an old Presario 100c desktop at home running Win98 & I was trying to upgrade it. I had problems putting in a new HD (WD 80Gb), as the computer hangs on the compaq logo on boot, and the BIOS could not detect the drive (hangs when tries).
Drive worked in an older P200 box, and I've since partitioned and formatted (NTFS) using my laptop, and in the P200 box installed Win2k no worries. I assume the BIOS needs to be upgraded, but I can't find one, and need help.
Have searched Compaq site, and none for download.
Have searched Google for a while, and got the AMI BIOS ID util, but says no AMI BIOS (which it is when i go into it!?).
Couple other utils said it was AMI BIOS though.
Any ideas what I can do to get the new HD working please??
Thanks.
PS. sorry for the long post..

It looks like there is no BIOS upgrade available for that model.

It's my guess, and that's strictly a guess, that this old Presario will be limited in the amount of disk space that it can see by the old BIOS. The limit might be something in the range of 9GB even tho you have a 80GB drive. Some disk manufacturers have a Disk Overlay utility that might work for you but no guarantees there.
Sorry I couldn't help out more. Good Luck Tho!
