OMG we got HD cable TV today and it is awesome...
The local cable company finally started offering HDTV service a few week ago and we got it today. I hooked up to our 43" HDTV and holy moly the HDTV channels are awesome (we are right now getting 16 HDTV channels)!!! 
I only post using 100% recycled electrons!!!
Stay on the bomb run, boys. I'm going to get them doors open if it hair lips everybody on Bear Creek.

been using HDTV for a while now, looks great.. Now me, I only have a 30" TV... But mine is widescreen

We actually got our TV at a scratch n' dent/close out sale about a year ago for only $700 (a Samsung). It's got a couple of big ole scratches on the back and the top of the TV, but they are both hidden, so it ain't a big deal.

Is HD really that good? I mean for a "regular" TV watcher like myself, HD promises better picture, hard to imagine a better picture.

So what is the cable co pumping it out to you at?
480p
720p
1080i
The cable co around me only pumps it out at 480p so I had to go through DishTV to get 1080i. the only downside of 1080i is that on regular channels you either have to zoom to fill the widescreen and distort the picture/cut the top of heads off or revert back to 480p to keep the image clean. The Discovery Channel is awesome in HDTV @ 1080i.

Other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it’s been.

Yes, the picture is significantly better, like actually being there only better.
Cuurently I am between getting a Sony 42" Projection LCD TV or a Dell or Viewsonic projector. The Dell has a significantly higher contrast ratio hmmmm.....Seems like a good deal and I can stand buying a new bulb once a year

Projection TV's always dissapointed me, I think thats why my dad stuck with normal TV's, he's planning on switching to plasma/lcd though.

Yeah, the projection TV's have gotten better, I have a Sony 51" made in '98 and the picture quailty just isn't there any more and it's not a simple convergence fix. It would take some time to get it lined up again.
I was originally looking into rear projection TV's but of course they litter the projection TV area with Projection LCD TV's which just blow away the picture of standard projection HDTV's.
Projection DLP? Somebody please help me.....this is too much to know computers and TV's. The Dell projector I am checking out is a DLP DDR projector, whatever the hell that means, it's off to Tom's Hardware to read the article I saw about projection stuff....

Had my Panny 47" rear for over a year now, love it. Of course the new place is smaller, so I am forced to be too close to it. Some times it can be a little out of focus. Converged all I can on the thing.
For the price still, I would still stay with rear, as the prices for the rest are still too much for me.

Would not be a bad thing to own. But I was in a TV place last weekend and the salesguy was making a pitch to a customer to buy a projection lcd tv because you get almost plasma quailty at a cheaper price and then he said something that stuck in my mind, "plus this tv will last longer because it doesn't have the lifespan of a plasma tv." Plasma's have a lifespan? damn
Oh, and I read up on DLP. Damn you pmetal for mentioning it......
