To add vga to integrated board ?
As always, i don't know what to do with my own computer.
I've installed 2.4/533 celeron cpu on biostar integrated via mainboard.
Is the onboard S3 takes proccessing power from the cpu ? i know that the sound is, so i've installed SB LIVE card.
I use computer only for internet and emule. It has 160gb fast drive and 512mb memory - winxp sp2.
I am thinking to downgrade memory to 256mb, and to add a vga card.
it seems that for the application i use 256mb will be enough, because 512mb does not seems to let it work faster, I just don't know if i should add a used mx440 vga or to go to a stronger one , because i mainly use 2d programs.
Thank for the help

Hey HipHopper, for one thing eMule is a p2p app, and file sharing is not allowed to be discussed here in teh forums according to the rules.
Dont downgrade your memory, if you run XP, then memory is always good! Its also better to use a non-integrated VGA Card, anythings better than the integrated stuff.

Thanks, thought about it and decided to go to the mx440 card, i remembered that the integrated card "swallows" a little bit of the system memory.........

I was under the impression that file sharing and warez were not allowed, but discussing P2P applications by themselves was still acceptable.

If you are only using it for internet related tasks, then integrated video is more than enough. Hell, I build MAME PC's and we only need onboard graphics. True it does take from your system RAM, but on the flip-side you get a pretty efficient video adapter since it's integrated onto the board.
However, since it does share from your RAM, you definantly shouldn't take out any of it. Just keep things as is...the big question is what are you trying to do that makes you feel like you need to upgrade? If anything I would look into your software...a 2.4GHz with 512MB and 160GB HD should be more than capable of running multiple internet tasks. My girlfriends computer is an AthlonXP 1800+ with a VIA/S3 onboard graphics sharing 64MB of 512MB DDR and I can do anything with it. I keep it setup as the media server and also use it to host a personal website (Not the one in sig) and she's always downloading stuff from usenet, which is far more stressful than P2P apps. Never a problem...even does all the cool winamp visuals at full speed!
