Dvd/cd-rw Drive Not Reading Blank Dvd-rw
I have a SONY CDRWDVD CRX310EE DVD/CD-RW Drive (factory installed).
I have tried blank DVD-RW's and +RW's but what ever burning program i use it ejects the disk and says 'please insert a blank disc'. Ive tried copying music, photos and data but none work. I have tried updating drivers by right clicking the drive under 'my computer' and clicking on hardware tab but it says there are none avaiable.
I dont know much about this and id very like help as i want to be able to back up downloaded games. Thanks alot .

Welcome to Windrivers Sean
Was this supplied in a Dell machine?
Specifications here You can see that the drive will only accept DVD-RW
You should try with a standard DVD-R or DVD+R
If it still doesn't work, it may be that the DVD writing part of the drive has died. I assume it still plays CDs and DVDs ok?

Slowly my Pioneer 104 has been having problems reading DVDs and DVD-Rs. However, at any point I can put in a CD or CD-R and it reads and writes fine. Last night my Pioneer stopped reading DVDs and DVD-R's completly. It tries to read it, it just makes a clunking sound, the light lights up and eventually turns off. Sometimes my burning software don't even recognize my drive being available. I installed the latest firmware and that didnt work either. I have not tried to do a system restore still? Any ideas?

Welcome to Windrivers sourabhjain
In future please post in your own thread as it confuses people trying to read about the original problem in the thread. Unfortunately your DVD part of the CD/DVD drive has died, fortunately they are cheap to buy and easy to replace.

You replace the entire drive... it is not possible to replace the failed dvd laser.

Yes it is made by Dell.
I knew it said only dvd-rw but i tried +rw's for the sake of it. Ill try it with a DVD-R and see if it works.

filtering
Have you tried removing the upper & lower filters in RegEdit? Sometimes these will interfere with a lot concerning DVD RW drives? I had a DELL Dimension as a backup machine not too long ago that did this until I removed these.
