Hello gang..
i hope everyone had a merry christmas and a happy new year.
well.. i need some help with a program that you guys might already be using.
i am trying to find out information on the equipment that we have through out the hospital. right now i am using LAN GUARD but it is not registered and i also need some extra info that LAN GUARD might not have.
here is what i need to find out by pinging the ip addres or a range of ip addresses.
HOST NAME
STATIC or DHCP
MAC ADDRESS
TYPE (if PC or PRINTER - if possible)
O.S. (if win98, 2k, xp - if possible)
and any other info that could be useful.
please let me know what you recommend
thanks

See if you can find a copy of HP TopTools. It's a network inventory program that should be able to help you find much of what you need.

Angry IP Scanner will give you alot of that rather quickly. NAME, IP, MAC, SHARES, USERNAME. etc
If there's no shares you can probably assume it's a printer.
as for static or dhcp, isn't that kinda on your dhcp server where it has reserved ranges.
as for OS what about Microsoft's MBSA?

I use this one all the time, works well and it's free. You just need to know the subnets that devices exist on.
