    Will not boot up

I have constructed a new computer using an Intel D875PBZLK motherboard and a Intel Pentium 4, 3.0E GHz 800 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology CPU. I replaced the power supply with a known working one, also I replaced the motherboard. It still does not boot. Could it be the CPU, or could it be something else I overlooked?

Did you connect the extra square four pin power lead to the motherboard ?

Thank you for your reply, the answer is yes. I have another computer with the same configuration that works, I have been swapping parts with, but I am a little nurvice about removing the CPU to try it in the non working unit, do you think a brand new CPU from Intel would be bad? The computer starts up but the only thing that works are the fans, power light, hard drive light and the little LED on the motherboard. I can not open the CD Rom; also the lights on the CD Rom and floppy drive do not come on. I bought all the computer parts over the internet making it hard to make exchanges. Do you have any ideas how to fix my problem?

You can try the new CPU in the old board, to see if it is indeed good/bad. Could be that you got a bad one (it happens) new right out of the box. If it boots then I’d look at one of the other items, going about it the same manner, (power supply, cd-rom, 1.44, and so on).

Be careful, don’t put it all on at one time. New to old and back do not use your old chip in the new board!!!!

I run the D865GBF motherboard, and an Intel Pentium 4, 3.0E GHz 800 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology CPU, I did have a bad board the first time it went together, but mine was a bad pot, which could be seen on the board.

It could also be something as simple as improperly connecting the power button to the motherboard, not connecting the fan to the CPU_FAN connector.
