Why Should I Stop Using Internet Explorer?
It's been pretty slow around here lately, so I thought I would pose this question. Maybe the three of us that are still here can have a good discussion.
Why should I switch from Internet Explorer to one of the alternate browsers? Please be specific in your answer. IE seems to do what I need and does not give me problems. My home computer is 100% up to date and I have a hardware firewall (my router). What would be the advantage of switching browsers?

I use IE always and occasionally Firefox, just for something different.
Reason for FF:
1] Tabber Browsing
2] More secure (they say, and its only a matter of time till it get to become the prime target for hackers, etc)
3] Themes.

You're a tech, you don't need to change. FF is also a bit faster, too. But, don't tell imaeditedbysowolu that I said this.

I personally find that firefox crashes less than ie does and also is more sevure, i can use it for 6 months and then if i run adaware i'll find maybe 4 datamining cookies, with ie i'd find a few dozen real infextions. I don't run an anti-virus because it's a resource hog, or a firewall for the same reasons (although there is a hardware one in my router) so i use firefox and am better off for it.

Let's see now, you are a tech and you don't run a virus program and you don't have a firewall???? And you think you're ok because you blame that all on IE???

Alright, fair enough. How about you or Khaz start a topic in Tech to Tech asking:
"Why should I use an Anti Virus Program?"
or
Why should I have a firewall"
Let's see what gets posted.

Here's a good reason why you should switch: IE has several bugs (read security flaws) which M$ hasn't addressed yet. More flaws are being discovered every week. I don't advise you to try, but if you go to some underground websites... if you know what I mean... you'll see that exploits exist. 'nuff said...
On the other side FF is built much better, and it doesn't allow for ActiveX controls to run... and it doesn't use of M$ Virtual Machine which is buggy too.

IE Never crashes for me, and ZoneAlarmPro cleans the system fine, and NAV takes care of Virus et al.
Safe,Secure, and no crashes.
Not running AV/Firewall in today world of net isnt the best thing a person can do. And not the brightest. IMO

Really?
For the 4 years I did that(which was up until 3 months ago) I never got one single virus, barely any spyware, and no major problems. Yet I did my best to go to every porn site ever made, used most of the different download sites(Kazaa, etc)....

And how do you know if you got a virus/spyware or not? Since you never had any of those installed? Its just a matter of time.

Running ad-aware and spybot periodically, and working in the business I know the traits of the bad virus's.

Sorry cleete. It simply makes no sense whatsoever when all you need to do to protect yourself is "put a lock on the front door" sort of speak. Plus, being in the business, and knowing the traits of bad viruses, does not mean you know the traits of "all" viruses. There are simply too many of them. I honestly do not understand your reasoning. btw, what was this all about:

Plus, I am still waiting on you or Khaz to start a thread on the subject.

A) I don't leave politicos or the lounge
B) 4 years dip****, I did it for 4 years, shove it, I know what works and what doesn't. If I got a virus, I could easily fix it
C) I get so pissed with the line of reasoning they are using in there, no one wants to think about everyone else, they only want to think of themselves. That and the spyware I got on my other pc was pissing me off.
