Win XP won't restart..just continuous beeping noise!

I recenly installed software for a new HP all-in-one printer. for some unknown reason, this caused a conflict with my PS2 scrolling mouse. everytime I open either IE or netscape, the mouse slows to a crawl or it migt disappear for a short time. When I unplug the HP print USB, the mouse is fine on the web. I was about to uninstall the HP software to thn re-install when an error popped up and the scvreen went blank. I then heard a loud beeping noise. When I rebooted, all I get is a continuous loud intermittent beeping noise with a blan-black screen. I tried to reboot with either a Win 98 bootdisk or the Win XP disc for recovery effort, but I cannot get either to work..juts continuous beeping with blan screen.. i would apprecite any help on this strange occurance.

It sounds like you may have a memory problem.
Try reseating the RAM sticks and reboot. It isn't going to be a windows faulr because you cant boot at all.
Do you get any display before the beeps?
And Control Enter STILL wont let me post a reply.

Thanks for answering my request for help. TO answer your qustion, the answer is no. I do not get any display before the beeps. I turn on the cpu and I immediately hear the beeps, but the screen remain black (blank). This all happened all of a sudden. Just before it happended, an error message popped up real quick ona blue screen, but it disappeared quickly and then I heard the beeping sound with a blank screen.

I will try your suggestion of reseating the RAM sticks and reboot.

Again, I thank you for your time and suggestions. It is truly appreciated.

Sandwich...thanks for your reply and question. This cpu has a 300watt power supply. This is my wife's computer, so not much is installed and running that I believe would have an effect on the power supply. But again, I'm a novice at this.
Please let me know your thoughts on my reply.

Thanks again for your time and response!

Is there a pattern to the beeping?
Is this a branded machine (hp, compaq, emachine)?

Continuous beeps usually mean ram on OEM builds, but not always... sometimes it can be the temperature alarm or a mainboard fault.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
