avi to VCD/DVD converter

Can anyone recommend an avi to VCD or DVD format converter (preferably a free one

?

I have a bunch of avi files that are taking up most of my hard disk and I'd love to put them onto vcd or dvd and reclaim the space.

what do you use to burn?

I'm using Nero and it's built into that. In both version 5.x and 6.

Use TMPGEnc from http://mirror.edskes.com/ it can convert from AVI to VCD/DVD and much more, I've used it alot over the years.

The only way I've ever done it is with TMPEnc, but I've seen this flying around and have been meaning to try it:

Give it a shot, might work. I've also been playing around with DVDSanta, which is a horrible name, but a nice program. It might help you out too!

I've heard alot about DVD Santa, but never cared to try it, why mess with a working formula. But who knows...

AVI2VCD - does all formats - uses tmpgenc or cinecraft to encode.

Why waste your DVDs encoding to svcd's when for around 50 bucks you can buy a new DVD player that will play all those DIVX .avi files you have? You can place allot more on a DVD in .avi format than you ever could with a vob file.

Thanks for the suggestions, i'll give some of those a try.

In answer to the above: Welcome to Windrivers, I play all my DVDs and VCDs throught the computer anyway so the avi thing is no problem (in fact I'll back them up to DVD now). Just sometimes like to lend them to my mates who don't have the hi-tech wizardry
