    A crash..possibly a virus. Need assistance please.

Yesterday afternoon i tried to go into my Control Panel. For some reason i wasn't able to access it and my internet explorer did a refresh type of thing..almost like an instant Restart to my comp.

When the error popped up it said the program causing this problem is called, "Drwatson Postmortem Debugger" Now i have no idea what this is and i never ever remember installing such a program.

I cant access my control panel, my recycle bin!..this is crazy. Please any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.

Btw, its been spreading. I can't open some folders and such.

Dr Watson is a windows system file used to debug crashes. What version of windows are you running?

Go here for an online virus scan: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

You might also try running "sfc" to check for corrupt system files (exact syntax depends on your windows version).
Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

Could be, but lets rule out the others. Run the online scan and the system file check ("sfc /scannow" from start/run window)

Ok the online virus scan is still going. And i'll do the system file check and tell you what the deal is with that.

You might want to do an Online Scan, and just in case, a spyware scan too.

    Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.download.com/3001-8022_4-10289035.html
    Adaware SE: http://download.com/3000-2144-100459...age&tag=button

Also boot to safe mode and run this:

    NOD32AV, Standalone: http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm#nod32

Ok well it seems i cant even do the ("sfc / scannow" from the start/run window as the drwatson program comes up again and freezes.

I will also try what you have said Tech.

The online virus scan is done. I didnt see anything that said the name of the program which was Drmortan postmortem debugger.

Surprisengly i did find virus's that were "Non Cleanable" but i deleted all of them by the virus scan. That does mean that it is permenatly deleted right?

Err...i ran in Safe Mode but the only problem was i couldn't get online..(I use AOL for now..-_-). But the good part is, i can access most of my files and such while in Safe Mode. The other bad part is, i cant run "scannow" from the start/run window...

    Any other suggestions?

I'm sorry for bringing this post back.

Ok so i tried it in safe mode and ran that program you told me to run. Still nothing that i saw..and the problem still continues with this drwatson stuff..

I heard someone say to me, you should reload your OS. Could you tell me how i would go about doing this? Thanks

Reloading your OS, is quite a good idea, but not to take lightly, read up on it, and be well prepared before you try it, or better yet, take it to an experienced Tech.

    Plenty to read via google:
