file transfers
This is sort of a networking question. I want to transfer some files from an old Hitachi laptop running Windows 98SE to a newer laptop running Windows XP. Both machines have ethernet (the Hitachi via a PCMCIA card adapter). After connecting them with an ethernet cable, is it necessary to use special file transfer software, or can I get by with just the networking facilities in the two operating systems?

You need a cross over cable rather than the usual straight through type and then just network them together. You can get these from on-line if you cant make your own.
