Unhappy QDI Titanium 1B Doesn't Like Dual Speed PCI NICs?

    Hi,

Can anyone think of a good reason why PCI 10/100 NICs refuse to function in this motherboard, a QDI P51430TX Titanium 1B, Bios V1.3S, at anything other than 10BaseT/Half Duplex.

The NICs connects with a 10/100 dual speed switch. There is a link light which shows a 100/Full Duplex connection if the NIC is set to auto-detect, the default. But the NIC uses some preset IP address with a class B subnet mask: it does not pick up a IP address from the DHCP server; it will not accept a static IP address. No communication is possible. The same thing happens if the card is set to 100/Half-Duplex or 10/Full-Duplex. It doesn't seem to matter which brand/model of NIC is used. I have tried several, and the results are always the same.

The OS is W98SE. All updates and patches have been applied. Intel's latest and greatest drivers for the 430TX chipset have been applied.

I am using the MS drivers that ship with W98SE for the NICs. My next step is to download the manufacturers' drivers.

    Strange problem.

    Hi.

ISA 10BaseT cards work fine as long as they are not set to full-duplex.

The board has problems with both 100BaseT settings and full-duplex settings.

The NICs (both ISA and PCI) all test fine in other motherboards.

    Never overlook the obvious.

There is a short in the network drop where the computer housing the wrongfully maligned QDI motherboard is located.
