    Terminal services and local/networked printers

Just a quick question how do i set up terminal services to print on the clients machine and not the server?

the client is in a remote location and needs to print on their lan, i've set it up so they can print at the server's location, but not locally for the client, is there a quick and easy way to do this?

Is it a network printer or a shared printer?

There are a couple of things you'll need to check. In the Terminal Services Configuration, you need to check the settings on the Client Settings tab. (Right click the RDP-tcp on the right side pane and select properties.) Make sure what you want is enabled and what you need is not disabled in the bottom portion of that tab.

you can connect any printer you want accros the TS session by tweaking the client side RDP settings. Basicaly you install the pritner on the client machine (logicaly not physicaly, so it if a network printer just create the object to it). then look for somthing call connect local devices (hard drives, pritners, com ports, ltp ports ect.) in hte client connection settings.

Verify that the server will allow clients to attach local devices (typicaly a Citrix concern but the MS defaults may ahve been monkeyd with.)

the only printer that will not work accros a TS session is a USB pritner. If it is connected to a system via USB then it cannot be done with out 3rd party apps or a Win 2003 based TS server.

One other thing worth noting; The server would need to have the drivers for the local printer installed on the server so it knows how to talk to it.

If the drivers aren't installed on the server for the local printer, it won't show up remotely.

    Definately a valuable point!
