firewire and Win XP - Camcorders
Hello All,
As typical with any new operating system, I’m frustrated. My older Panasonic PV-DV910 digital camcorder won't talk to the system. I have a brand new computer, with Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2. I also have a digital capturing card (firewire with USB 2 ports). My old computer with Win ME could capture video through firewire connections, however, this new XP system will recognize the card, but not the camera. Since the camera is older, I'm considering replacing, but the issues seem to lie with XP. I have an XP compliant card. The computer sees the card, and does not show any problems. In Windows Movie Maker, Ulead VideoStudio 7SE, Sony EZ Editor, and every other Digital capture program that I have tried, I cannot see the camera. The error message I get is "No valid video capture devices were detected"
Diagnostics I have tried:
1. Turned off firewall - didn't work.
2. Checked to see if 1394 card was working - Control panel shows no problems with drivers and the device.
3. Researched many posts, most deal with Service Pack 1 drivers (I don’t have service pack 1).
4. Rebooted with camera attached – didn’t work.
5. Tried a different cable – didn’t work.
6. Added a windows patch.
Any suggestions for further troubleshooting?

Yes, get service pack 2!!
There are tons of video problem fixes in sp1 and 2. You may also need this patch as well
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Thank you for the suggestions, but I'm on Service pack two currently. The enumerate issue was fixed with Service Pack Two. Isn't it ironic that the "advanced" Windows XP won't communicate across a firewire unless one has a newer camera? So much for upgrades..........
My neighbors Sony Video 8 is instantly recognized, but not my Panasonic.
