    sdram pc84 memory

We found a computer that was being thrown away.
We are pretty sure it has bad memory.
The memory in it is sdram pc84.

I have never heard of pc84 memory.

Has anyone heard of that type of memory ?

If we can find some appropriate memory without putting much money in it then the computer would be worth fixing up for odd jobs.

    It's a gateway 2000.
    It's a 233 mhz intel.
I don't have the pc close to me anymore.
I don't remember what the motherboard was.
It was made in 98 running windows 98.
That's about all I've got on it.
We tried to put some pc100 sdram in it and it didn't like that at all.
It got a protection error. Removed the chip and it booted up fine.

But I'm still looking for some cheap memory for it. If that's possible

Most like uses PC66 SDRAM (66MHz fsb)
Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

Do you not remember ( I suppose it depends how long you've been at it ) that before we got to many machines having the standard speeds of PC 100 & pc 133, there were lots of machines 'out & about' with various different FSB's varrying between 66 through various values to 100 ?

They did anyway & if memory serves me correctly, this is what you'd have needed for some of those (I think there was also things like PC91 etc).

I think you'll have a tough time finding an exact match, but I'm fairly confident a bit of tweaking in your bios can help you out - this is the time when setting 'auto' for memory timings in your bios isn't best ! (generally it is !)

This will give you an idea about many bios settings which might help, & there's also tools to do this, but they are all pretty 'expert' - stuff like this can help too - but 'same problem'
