XP sp2 hangs on USB divices & reboots with extra drives connnected
Hi there
I have AMD athlon xp 2000 + 1.67Ghz 512MB PC that worked well on XP sp1 with 3 hard drives and all my USB devices & digital video cameras
Recently I used my XP sp 2 upgrade disk from a different PC to upgrade this one to SP2 and that is when it all went wrong !
On the SP2 install completion the computer would go into reboot loop - finally I disconnected the extra drives and with just the mast drive the computer rebooted fine and I got XP sp2 working
But ever time I try to add the extra drives the system just reboots - also if I now attach any of the USB devices (printer or camera) the computer just freezes and then I get a black screen and so have to physically remove the devices for the computer to work again
I have been through all this with Microsoft but no joy at all ! even ordered the FREE sp2 disk which they said might be an option for rerunning the upgrade but no joy
The Bios must work fine because if I get another working XP SP2 computer hard drive and put it into this computer all the drives and usb devices work fine no problems apart from the fact I am then down to one PC !
i.e XP SP2 hard drive from PC 2 into faulty PC 1 everything works but I can not leave it there due to the activation problems after 3 days
Can anyone please help me out on this
Regards
tss
