USB Dual Vibration Gamepad

I have a Dual Shock Gamepad with 2connectors - the main cord (connected to the gamepad) is the PSX2 cord, and coming out from the PSX2 cord is a small USB connector, to be attached to the computer.

I had the gamepad tested, the hardware guy suggested that since only the PSX2 connector works (which i never use) and the USB connector/cord doesnt (which i use on PC), i should cut the main PSX2 and join it with a new usb cable/connector. This will make it possible for the gamepad to work BUT only on USB (which i dont mind as my main purpose is USB gaming not PSX2).

I cut both the PSX2 wire and the new USB wire that i purchased, inorder to join them.. but the PSX2 has 12 wires and USB has 4 wires in them, respectively.

Could anyone help me as to how do i join them to get the gamepad working for USB connectivity.

I'm not sure if you will be able to rig any kind of coherent mating but you may need to strip away some of the cladding near the plug to see which wire goes with which pin. You probably would have more luck just buying a new controller and usb cable and strarting over.
