[Wacky Fresh!] Win9x/XP Network IPC$ Error
Hey folks,
I have set up a number of Win9x -> XP network shares. I know about the IPC$ "problem" and how to resolve it.
Except this time.
I have a system running XP Pro (SP1a) that will NOT allow connections to offered shares. It used to work many, many weeks ago. (System Restore is wiped due to a virus.)
As is common, there is a same user with the same password on both systems. Win9x is logging into Microsoft Windows Network with the same credientials.
I've tried changing workgroups and PC names (in case of cached problems), scrutinizing permissions, creating a new user on both machines, etc., etc.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
The Computer Valet

The first thing I'd do would be to delete and re-create one share to see if you have an underlying broken NTFS trust problem. If the 9x PC can then connect to the "new" share then that's the cure - un-share and re-share all shared resources.
If that doesn't work I'd start looking at recent changes - firewall on one or the other PC, maybe?
