windows xp pro removal, 200 pro install questions

i have a dell laptop p3, with winxp pro installed. the laptop is designed to run 2000 pro. upon uninstalling the os, and deleting the partition, it will now not allow me to install win 2000 pro. upon setup on a fresh partition, it gives me this mesege > cannot find setupdd.sys, setup cannot continue. ? ? ? please respond if you think u have some info on this problem. we do not have a manufacturers recovery disk, ive already thought of that, but i dont see why we should need it unless setupdd.sys is inherant to the dell laptop.
