    nec nd1300 reads cd but not dvd

    Had my burner over a year been ok but used ashampoo uninstaller and ever since it wont even play a dvd or even recognise one! ok with cd and my oher dvd rom is ok ? updated firmware and reinstalled xp but its still not working.

    Renistalled by that do you mean a clean install after a format
    Or a repair install over the top?

    i did a clean install and still nothing like it does recognise a dvd? help please

    DVD drives have two lasers inside, one for CDs and one for DVD's. It is not uncommon for one laser to go but the other work fine, Ashampoo was probably just a coincidence.
