    defrag

    hi,win98s.e. i recently reinstalled win98s.e. but today when i tried to use
    disc defragmenter it only gets to about 20% then freezes and i have to reboot,can anyone help please,?

    try running scandisk, then run defrag again. Also Win ME had a faster version of defrag,you can download it here: http://members.cox.net/scotterpops/e...cements9c.html

    Try running in safe mode.
    Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

    Solved

    sorry guys, forgot to post back results,and to say thank you,
    closed screen saver,closed running progs,except explorer,systray,
    ran scan disk,then defrag,ran like a dream.thanks again.

    I'm glad to hear that you got defrag to run. You know that it's best to delete temp files and do a disk cleanup before a defrag.

    It's just hanging up when it hits open apps (which you discovered). I hated having to close apps or boot into safemode (what a pain, and I hate having my desktop rearranged!), so I got Diskeeper, which doesn't have this problem. They have a free trialware. http://www.executive.com (I tried it and ended up buying it.)
