TCP/IP printing in Win98
I am trying to get my HP LaserJet 5N to print via an IP address. I got my W2K and XP to print on the LAN. there is no print server...just a peer-to-peer set up for now...experimenting. Help please

In the old days we used HP's jetadmin to get an IP port on 9x boxes...I don't think you can download that any more, it was a cool utility for those OS's since you can't add the port natively...
DonJ, do you know where that utility might be, there were so many versions, I'd be suprised if it's not at a freeware site somewhere...

I got this from HP awhile ago, can't remember where it was on their site. It adds the option of TCP\IP printer ports in the Add printer setup.

Lots of good info and Q & A's there.
Looks like they recommend downloading their "HP Install Network Printer Wizard" here. Says it supports Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me, Windows 98, Windows 95 and Novell NetWare 3.11, 3.12, 3.2, 4.11, 4.2, 5.0 and 5.1 (using Windows 98, Me, 2000, or NT client computer)
Description: A simple network printer installation wizard for small to medium size networks. Supports Windows TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, and Novell NDS or Bindery

If it's the ability to print via LPR you need then I have an application that will give you that facility within the printer properties / ports in Windows 9x. If that's what you want then PM me an e-mail addy and I'll send it over. It's called Acits LPR.

It's pretty simple, not any options like the I.W., just allows you to add a printer by ip address. Set up fits on a floppy.
