    Multiple XP problems

    Hello,

I am having some major problems with trying to fix my father's computer.

First, he can not use windows media player when connected to the internet. All other sounds work fine, but media player says it can not play the file because there is a problem with the sound device. This ONLY happens when connected to the internet. If I unplug from the router and reboot, everything works fine.

Second, he is constantly getting the following error popping up:
Generic host process for Win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close.
    Error signature:
    szAppName: svchost.exe
    szAppVer: 5.1.2600.2180
    szModName: wuaueng.dll

It really looks to me like a trojan or worm, but I have scanned and cleaned with Adaware, XoftSpy to no avail. He also has McAfee firewall and virus scan installed.

He is running XP Home Edition SP2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    This is a trojan:

    Thanks for the information.

I scanned with both of the above and they found and removed a couple of things. The trojans and dialers (I assume those are dialers?) that are found in hijack this weren't removed. How do I delete those?

    Thanks again!

    Dave

You would fix them with hijack - check the box next to those and click "fix selected" button. You may have to run in safe mode for it to work.
