unlock multiplier on XP1400
Hi everyone-
I've got a athlon XP 1400 chip in my sandbox PC, when it was new I was too chicken to try and unlock the multiplier. I am seriously considering it now, but I can't seem to find the information I need.
My question is can an XP1400+ be unlocked using "the pencil trick" or does it require "the superglue trick".
Couldn't find a guide on the pencil trick and "the superglue trick" guides I found were all using the XP 2100 to demonstrate the process.
Or should I just be happy with the results I can get from running up the FSB?

are you sure it's a XP 1400+, i cant find any record of that as an athlon XP only a standard athlon, mobile or "Pro" integrated model. What are the step codes on it i.e.AGOIA.... This would help...G

I totally missed the XP part. I saw 1400 and immediately thought orignal athlon.....which my above link will work for but NOT any XP cpu.

I'm getting old....
whoops - I have been using the terms XP and t-bird interchangably. (maybe in 2 years my dumb self will be calling my A64 an operton...sigh) The processor shows up at boot time as an XP 1400+ by default, 1600 when overclocked using FSB adjustments. But I guess technically it is a t-bird - I know it is not a mobile or pro anything.
I guess I need to go ahead and take the heatsink off and see exactly what it is.
Kind of hoping it is a plain athlon now so I can do the pencil trick.

Yes remove the heatsink and get the numbers directly off the chip. That will reaveal the type and stepping model which is nessecary

It is an XP1600+ which runs at 1400Mhz. So I guess that means the pencil trick is not an option. Don't think I want to risk the other....
