installation of wireless USB network adapter

I bought a linksys wireless G USB adapter for my son's XP home edition computer. I get a "There is a problem installing this hardware, a service installation in this inf is invalid", grr. I researched carefully so I wouldn't have this kind of problem. Anyway, go to linksys and download the latest driver, download, still the same error message. Any advice? I'll go back and go through uninstalling and installing.

Is it the WUSB54? I have one also, and it wasnt hard to setup, I followed the instructions that came with it and it was working fine in no time, the new drivers on the linksys site are much better (signal strength is much higher).

Are you installing it in administrator (or a user with admin privelleges) ?

Check that the usb port is working properly and you have the latest chipset drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.

Do you have SP2 installed? There have been issues with SP2 and usb devices, the new drivers might help, and also getting all the updates for XP home from Microsoft.

I got it running!! My mistake was clicking on add new hardware..doh! After disabling the device and uninstalling the software, all is fine! I didn't install sp 2 on this machine for various reasons.

One thing though, best get the new drivers for your device, if it is the WUSB54, they are much better than the included drivers.
