    Hardware Support for Novell 4.11

I'll be updating my novell 4.11 server but my supplier doesnt guarantee that the server he quoted is 100% compatible (driver) for Novell 4.11

Is Novell 4.11 really obsolete? if yes, when was the hardware support for Novell 4.11 discontinued? Coz i need to justify to my General Manager that we can't use Novell 4.11 anymore coz no Server PC in the market has driver support for this OS.

Any help like links or more info is highly appreciated...

    Hi welcome to windrivers.

4.11 support finished ages ago, latest Netware version is 6.5 I think. I for one have not seen a 4.11 server for at least 2 years. We have only one customer left on Netware, and thats 5.1 and they are migrating soon to latest version.

Head to http://support.novell.com where you'll get some more info and possibly a link to a forum that might tell you what 4.11 would work on these days. If you're going to get a new server, get one with latest version pre-installed and migrate to it.

As for your boss not understanding IT - welcome to the world of IT....

netware 4.11 was end-of-lifed as of 12-31-2001. Here is a link to the end of life table for all the Novell products:

Do you have the hardware specs for the new server, maybe we can help you a bit. I would be happy to help you find out exactly what parts are / are not netware 4.11 compatible - this may help you make a more persuasive case for the server software upgrade.

I do have to say that NetWare 4.11 was an extremely reliable NOS and I would (personal opinion) keep 4.11 until the software was unable to perform some required business function or need. Do you need Native IP, or Application compatibility then the upgrade may be worth it, but you would need to find all the neccessary drivers.
