TDK Combo not reading V/CDs, but reading DVDs

When I insert V/CD, my combo drive is recognising the VCD(tring to read, light is blinking for some time and then stops). You will not find any contents when you explore the folder. But It is able to read DVDs. A month ago, it was able to read CDs sometimes and sometimes not it was not able to read. Now it is not at all reading V/CDs. Tried with all type of CDs. But it is not able to read. I even tried at booting time with a bootable Linux CD1. It is not able to read CD. Is that the header for DVD reading and CD reading are different ? Is that header and lense are different ? PleaZZZZZ... give me suggetions. Thanks a lot in advance.

Welcome to windrivers forums gongoora.

The bad news is that 'combo' units are very often 'dual laser' units so it is possible that your unit may be able to read dvd but not cd, as the two seperate lasers can become misaligned. If you can't get it to boot with a known good boot disk, its time for return or replacement, sorry.
