Question HDTV with PC not fully user friendly?!? Can it be?

I have an ATI 9600pro with a VGA and DVI output running on XPsp2. I have the VGA on a 17' LCD and the DVI plugged into a DVI to HD converter.

I have it working just fine with dual or clone screens. But I have a list of 30+ resolutions to pick from. Drivers for my TV say "Default Monitor" Is there some way to get drivers that tell windows that my 2nd Display is an HDTV so only the appropriate resolutions so up?

    *480p 720p and 1080i? (640x480- 60, 1280x720- 60, 1900x1080- 30)
*I think that's all of them...

Thank you for looking at my question and thank you more ahead of time for taking your time for a reply (if any are given!!) :butt:

Working out how to use the ati drivers to their full potential is a task in itself !

The only way to get what you want, that I've figured out, is to get a set of drivers that support '.net' & thus give you the 'catalyst control centre' & then set up your required resolutions on each monitor, then save them as a profile & then make those available as shortcuts &/or hotkeys & then switch between each profile as required...

(I think you can also set up applications to run in certain resolutions using shortcuts, but I didn't like that approach ..)

Oh yeah .. live long & prosper Sp0cK

    nothing good out there?

    confus-ed,

I Agree with you when you said " I didn't like that approach" because I have tried that.

You would think microsoft or someone would have made HDTV drivers for people who use their TV to play media. I guess I just need to save my money and invest into a HDTV that has a DVI or VGA input.(I don't want to)

But if you or anyone out there finds anything please let me know!!!
