USB 2.0 Hard drvie running @ USB 1.1

I have a USB 2.0 external hard drive enclosure that I originaly hooked up to my laptop running USB 1.1 ports. It was working fine and there were no problems except for the slow USB 1.1 speeds. I purchased a USB 2.0 Cardbus adapter to try to make things run faster. When I connected the drive to the card, it would only connect at 1.1 speeds. Other USB 2.0 devices that I connected would run at the rated speed, but not the external drive. I took the drive to another computer to confirm that it would connect at USb 2.0 and it did, but I had problems recognizing the partitions. When I brought it back to my laptop, it finally connected at USB 2.0 but did not recognize the partitions properly in Drive management. I reconnected it back to my USB 1.1 ports and it found the partitions properly but now that I plug it back into my USB 2.0 Cardbus adapter, it is only connecting at the USB 1.1 again.

    I am running XP SP2.

Can I move the drive to another computer and have it recognize the partitions and also how can I get the drive to connect at USB 2.0 on my adapter?

    Thanks.
