Some Service providers can one click a "push" message to configure the phone (it's not a text message ) But again, not all providers give this service, mine does not.
The problem with the super small non-flip phones is that they are TOO small to use properly.
and nokia's, i don't like them at all. not one bit.
What happens is that all the customers info is put into a database (Siebel, Axium, etc) along with the ICCID and the IMEI numbers. Then there is a propagation period of like 1 minute up to 24 hours. During that time, all the phones configuration is completed over the cellular network. This includes GPRS (or even EDGE, or whatever) settings. Many phones that I've seen include profiles for GPRS. For instance, you can accept your default GPRS or if you travel, you can manually configure a new GPRS (if you know the settings ahead of time).

I guess its called a "push" message, didnt know what the technical term was.
We have two providers and both have this service, either thru a menu on the phone (that is there via the Sim chip), or via their site.
Agreed, but there are also some extremely small flip phones that arent that user friendly due to their size. Small phones are good, tiny arent.
I guess it all depends on what youre personal preference is.
It's no the SIM chip they are configuring. The SIM chip is just a card with a number on it. That number is attached to a customer profile in a database along with the IMEI number of the phone. GPRS and GSM configuration is done server side, then transmitted to client-side (phone) where the settings are then stored in the phones memory. So it's not really the chip that is getting configured,.. it is the account that is getting configured to identify the chip and phone and then allow them access to the service providers network.

Hi there,
The reason why I rather ask friends and peoples who actually use the cell phone better then any sale rep. I got into the hole of getting the Sonry Ericsson Z200 from a sale person and ended up to be the worst cell phone (hang up, weak signal and even my friend who is with Fido such as I with different cell phone always get better signal then me). Maybe I'll jsut find one unlocked one.
No contracts for me!

Normally there is a 30 day period where you can return or exchange the phone. I suggest taking advantage of that 30 days.
