    Unhappy Explorer and Kernel32.DLL error

I am running Windows ME with all updates and when I try to open Internet Explorer I get the following error message :-

    Explorer
Explorer has caused an error in Kernel32.DLL
    Explorer will now close.

I have searched the net for the answer and found nothing. Has anyone got any ideas that may help.

    Many thanks

    Gary

A little more information would be helpful. Is there a Details button on the error dialog box? If so, post the info from that.
Google turned up 27,500 hits on searching for IE, explorer, kernel32.dll and error. Look at some of those and see if anything rings a bell.

Have you tried repairing Internet Explorer? Assuming you have IE6, go to Control Panel - Add/remove programs, select Internet Explorer 6 and internet tools, click the Add/remove button and select the Repair option.

As for "A little more information would be helpful" you only had to ask for what you wanted.
No there isn't a details button, just a close.
Yes Google does turn up over 27,000 hits. But these forums are there so people who have had a similar problem can then offer advice. Rather than having to trawl through 27,000 web site to try and find the answer.
I didn't ask you to post any support.

In most cases when I receive a PC with this error, I find it be infected with spyware or a trojan internet virus. Have you run Adaware, MS Anti Spyware, and Housecall to make sure there is no infections? If not I would sugggest loading the updates and then boot to safe mode and run the programs to clean it. If you find you were infected, I would also suggest you turn off system restore so as not reinfect your PC.
It's not the computers that keep having problems, it's the users!!

Thanks for all you good suggestions.

The actual problem was with the HP printer software.

I un-installed the printer and re-installed it and the error has gone.

    Thanks again.
