Cannot Burn MP3's on CD-R All Of A Sudden
I have tried 3 different burning programs and all of them say that no external recording device is found. I have checked for updates and there are none and my computer says that the device is working properly. I can play games and audio CD's but none of the blank CD's I have tried are being recognized. My operating system is Windows XP and I have not made any hardware changes to my computer. The only things I have added lately are games. I really have no idea what to do now. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Just realized..
I went back through my computer again and I do not think that it is recognizing my rewriteable cd drive at all, only my DVD drive. I dont know how it is suddenly uninstalled or how to reinstall it. Any suggestions?

Welcome to windrivers forums hopearus, you haven't told me so much, but from your collective symptoms, I'd say you have a software issue & my guess is that its related to things called 'class filter drivers' .. strictly cd\dvd's don't need drivers (windows having some standard ones) but these 'class filter drivers' are added by folks who write software with which to burn, so by trying to fix it you've maybe made it more confus-ed !?
Try the advice on the sticky in this forum about how to edit your registry to fix this(class filter issues) & make windows redect everything hopefully right .. if that's not 'doing it' try us with some more symptoms ..

http://www.chickensys.com/translator...iproblems.html Just a thought? If ASPI gets trashed, burning software will not work. The link has worked for me in the past.
Get me a soldering iron and some duct tape, and I'll see what I can do.

Especially if your burning problems started after you played burning software roulette, -ed is most likely right. Can you boot from your XP cd in that drive? If you can, then you have a definite Windows issue and I would try the fixes here: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;314096 and here: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;314060
If you can't boot from the drive, I'd vote for a dead burner.
