cannot see server from '98 box
i found a leftover PC that needed to be migrated off of Novell and onto the AD server(s) here. the issue that we are experiencing is the fact that upon migration (remove Novell, add MS stuff) i can access everything but the one server that i need to access.
It is NOT a pc issue as I have tried on several different PC's and have also tried the same user acct. on diferent OS (2k and XP). it works great on 2k and xp.
so what has been overlooked on this one server that will not allow the '98 box'es to connect to it.

So your saying the computers can be joined to the domain, but you can't login to the domain then?

no, i'm saying the computers can join the domain but cannot see one particular server. error: server or location does not exist. ( or soemthing like that).
this is only on win98 as i can login with the same usedID to a xp box and see the server fine.
I'm thinking there is something that we need to do to that server to allow win98 to authenticate to it.

I don't have any 98 boxes on any of our networks anymore, so I haven't had a chance to try server 2003 and 98 together, but see either of these might help:

Also, the share name or server name your trying to hit isn't more than 12 chracters long is it?

sounds like the server needs SMB Signing enabled or something. I'm looking into it for further details and/or specifics on how to do this

1) install DSclient

-------------------------------------------------------------
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\lsa\MSV1_0]
"NtlmClientSec"=dword:20000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\lsa]
"LMCompatibility"=dword:00000003
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\VNETSUP]
"LMAnnounce"="0"
"Directhost"="0"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\MSTCP]
"EnableDNS"="1"
"Lanabase"="0"
"Domain"="[YOUR INTERNAL DOMAIN]"
"NameServer"="[IP ADDRESS OF YOUR INTERNAL DOMAIN SERVER,INTERNET DNS SERVER1,INTERNET DNS SERVER2]"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\MSNP32\NetworkProvider]
"AuthenticatingAgent"="[IP ADDRESS OF YOUR SERVER]"
"LogonDisconnected"=hex:00,00,00,00
"Name"="Microsoft Network"
"ProviderPath"="msnp32.dll"
"Description"="Microsoft Network"
"NetID"=hex:00,00,01,00
"CallOrder"=hex:00,00,00,40
"DisableReLogin"=hex:00,00,00,00
-------------------------------------------------------------

c) type "attrib -h -r -s -a c:\msdos.sys"
d) edit c:\msdos.sys
e) look for a line that says "bootdelay="
* * * * * i) if you do not see one add it under [Options]
f) have it read like this "bootdelay=5"
g) goto file>save (if it asks to save say yes)
h) file > exit
i) type exit
8) restart machine (start > shutdown > restart , OK
9) when you see the words "Starting Windows 98" press the F8 key until you see a menu
a) do "command prompt only"
b) type the following:

cd\ (then enter)
cd\windows\system (then enter)
