Several months ago, someone published a very detailed article on how to break in to a wireless LAN, bypassing encryption, etc. I remember reading it, but forgot to bookmark it. Does anyone know where this article is?

I can tell you your best bet for securing a wireless network if that will help!

• Turn of SSID broadcasting.
• Use a WEP, higher encryption is better.
• Most important - always use MAC filtering, so only the NICs you give access to are allowed to access the wireless network.

Anything as far as breaching WiFi security is concerned is in direct violation of the AUP, and will not be permitted for discussion here.

GerryC, the fact that you are asking for such an article is a bit worrying to be honest. Most people would look at how to secure their wireless network, and 3fs pointed out some excellent steps, all of which I use

If the person is determined enough no doubt they can bypass your security, but if you are as safe as can be, well thats your only & best bet.

They did publish an article recently that the FBI could hack into any wifi network, but then you dont need to worry about that

Actually, WPA is more secure than WEP. Just about anyone can hack WEP security these days. The only problem with WPA is that it is not compatible with all systems which creates a minor inconvenience.

To add to 3FS's list, change the default admin password on the wireless router / access point and change the IP address of it too.
