    Cool cd-rw

There must be a problem with my dvd and cd-rw drives. I wanted to reinstall office 2000 and consistently get the 1305 error. Example: error reading from file D:PILES\MSOFFICE\TEMPLATE\1033\CSS\blocks_t\BLOCKS .CSS. The dvd-rom is a Toshiba SD-M1502. The cd - rom is listed as standard but it seems to me that it listed as a cd-rw previously. The system crashed and I had to reinstall Windows ME. Hope someone can walk me through this to get it functioning again.

Hi amega welcome to wd forums.

"error reading from file" means it could well be a scratched cd, & you can sometimes get it due to caching problems as described here .

So can you read other disks apparently ok ? or are you getting similar messages if you try & copy anything ?

    Welcome to Windrivers Amiga

Can you install any other programs? Does the cd drive play audio cds ok?

If so, check the office cd... it may be scratched or dirty.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Yes, I can play audios fine. Office 97 installed easily but I cannot install my printer cd nor office 2000. I already tried the caching before I contacted WinDrivers. Any other suggestions.

As a workaround you could try copying the entire install cd to your hard drive & running it from there (some stuff won't run like that though, but worth a go methinks).

Can you look in device manager & tell me/us what shows up connected to 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' ? (there should be three catergories, I/we want to know what is showing as connected to both primary & secondary channels, in each postion, slave or master, & whether they are using 'PIO mode' or 'DMA mode') ..

(unit specs are here for reference)

Can I also ask do you know what chipset patches are? & have you applied any ? If the answer is no to both of those, you'd better give us details about all your pc, & we can then work out what motherboard you may have, to deduce if you need any ..
