No sound after re-installing Windows XP

I'm not sure what the problem is, but there is no sound on my computer... and it's driving me crazy! There used to be before we formatted the hard drive a few months ago and reinstalled Windows XP. Now, the only sound the computer will make is that annoying system beep! Is there anyone that can help? When I go into the Device Manager, under Other devices, there is a yellow exclaimation mark next to Multimedia Audio Controller. In the properties, it says:

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."

which I tried to do, but I don't have a disk or CD for it. Also, I was wondering if this might be a problem: in the Device Manager, under Sound, video, and game controllers, this is what is listed:

    Audio Codecs
    Audio Codecs
    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Legacy Video Capture Devices
    Media Control Devices
    Media Control Devices
    MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device
    Standard Game Port
    Video Codecs

I read somewhere that double listers can cause problems. Anyway, I ran AIDA32 and here are the specs under Computer Summary:
